Myringotomy and gromets
Surgically created cut made in the ear drum and a silicone plastic or titanium metal tube placed in the cut, held in place by the design of the tube in order to ventilate the middle ear, thereby bypassing the function of the eustachian tube. Indications include recurrent middle ear infections and persistent middle ear fluid.
Ear and temporal bone resections
Microscopic approach to remove the bone housing the ear structures (middle part of the base of skull) because of cancer often originating in the ear canal.
